Chinese Automaker Geely Will Deliver Keys to New Cars via Drone

Talk about white-glove service. This home delivery also includes the complete disinfection of the car. Geely, the Chinese automaker maker and parent company of Volvo and Lotus, is taking its customers’ safety very seriously when it comes to the potential for infection. Last month, it announced that its Icon electric SUV will ship with an N95-rated in-car filtration system. Now the automaker’s online marketplace and home delivery has a new twist: contactless key delivery via a drone. JEEP Geely has been selling vehicles to China’s buyers through its online marketplace since February. Part of the delivery is having the cars disinfected when they arrive at the customer’s house. For a completely contactless experience, the automaker is offering key dropoff by drone, explaining: “The new system will now use drones in select locations to pass new car keys to consumers by delivering directly to their door or balcony, furthering the distance between staff and consumer and creating a truly contactless process.” The online store has already delivered 10,000 vehicles; deals closed online are transferred to local dealers that then disinfect the vehicles and dro...

Machine Gun Kelly, Young Thug live it up in “Bullets With Names” video

Machine Gun Kelly just released a fiery new track with Young Thug, RJMrLa and Lil Duke on March 13. The new song is called “Bullets with Names” and shows a return to the rap-oriented roots of which MGK hails.  Now, the multi-talented artist dropped the corresponding music video for the track, and just like the song that inspired it, it goes equally as hard.  “Bullets With Names” is the second music video that Machine Gun Kelly has dropped in as many weeks. On March 5, Machine Gun Kelly dropped his music video for “why are you here” but it wasn’t in the way he probably wanted. Someone leaked the video and instead of attempting to cover it up, MGK shared the link as well. Next, on March 12, MGK teased the new song in a social media video. The post is pretty on-brand for him. The video showed him smoking and playing the track in the background.  Machine Gun Kelly dropped the song the following morning and fans quickly came to admire the collaboration between the former tour mates in MGK and Young Thug, as well as the addition of RJMrLA and Lil Duke. The Jersey Shore-themed intro and rapid-fire flow put the icing on the cake to an unexpected song from MGK. Since December, it seems ...

62% of procurement, supply chain managers experiencing supplier delays from China

ISM’s report found one of the primary challenges for procurement managers is not only managing suppliers (53% of survey respondents reported having problems getting information from their Chinese supply chains) but accessing the containers to move goods in the first place. “We’ve got a bunch of stranded container ships in China that haven’t been coming to United States and we can’t export from here to demand in the China market,” Derry told Supply Chain Dive in an interview. “What I’ve been hearing, for example, is there is a lot of citrus that leaves from California this time of year to meet demand in China and in other places in Asia, and there aren’t enough refrigerated containers to send that product over there … you only have a small window to do that.” Slowdowns at ports, while starting to pick back up, and high airfreight rates are causing experts to estimate that freight flows won’t begin to normalize until April. In addition, newly announced flight restrictions from the EU are projected to shrink air capacity even further. In the meantime, whether procurement leaders have been prepared for COVID-19 ...

The heated greenhouse and encircling gardens have specific therapeutic purposes, allowing visitors to work with their hands and producing fresh ingredients for the kitchen. Shelves in the “cockpit” greenhouse were arranged to give visitors the sense of being wholly surrounded by plants. Long views draw visitors from the central kitchen toward relaxation spaces with open fires and outdoor terraces that are sheltered from Manchester’s frequent rain. Long views draw visitors from the central kitchen toward relaxation spaces with open fires and outdoor terraces that are sheltered from Manchester’s frequent rain. Clear sight lines from the mezzanine office allow “passive surveillance” of all spaces by the staff. According to Angela Daniel, a support specialist at the new drop-in center for cancer patients at Manchester’s Christie hospital, “When people come into this building for the first time, they gasp. Then their shoulders drop and they visibly relax. Quite often, they start crying and ask, ‘Is this really all for me?’ ” Designed by Foster + Partners for Maggie’s, a charity that provides practical and emotional support in purpose-built settings, the center at the Robert Parfett B...

Comment: European charger standard law will be too late to affect Apple

Way back in 2014, European lawmakers made a broadly sensible proposal that could have hurt Apple. The European Union’s Radio Equipment Directive called for a European charger standard asking all smartphone manufacturers to use compatible chargers. There were two key elements to the proposal. First, a common voltage and amperage. Second, a connector to plug a charger into a smartphone… The proposal reflected the fact that, for a long time, every smartphone needed its own charger. They output an arbitrary number of volts, a random number of milliamps, and often had a proprietary connector. By 2014, however, things had changed a lot. It was already the case that most smartphone manufacturers had adopted microUSB as their charging method. That meant everything from voltage to physical connector was dictated by the USB standard, and you could use most chargers with most phones. For that reason, the proposal seemed reasonably practical if unnecessary: there was already widespread support for the microUSB standard. Apple had switched from the old 30-pin connector to Lightning just two years earlier. There was exactly zero chance it was going to switch from the slim, double-sided and te...

Swapping kitchen roll for hard to find loo roll could wipe out Milton Keynes sewage system

Local democracy takes a hit as council and other public bodies in Milton Keynes respond to coronavirus outbreak Frustrated shoppers forced to substitute kitchen roll for toilet paper could have dire consequences on the sewage system in Milton Keynes, an expert has warned. A mass switch to kitchen roll or baby wipes could easily cause the pipes to become blocked and chaos would result, said leading supply chain academic Professor Richard Wilding from Cranfield School of Management. He said: “We are seeing shortages of toilet paper but worryingly also shortages of paper kitchen towels and industrial paper towel used for example, in garages and workshops and other wipe products. “If kitchen towels, baby wipes or industrial papers are used as a replacement for toilet paper, our sewage systems could readily become blocked with the resulting chaos and increased health risks associated with this. Ultimately, water companies may not have the infrastructure and equipment to unblock the sewer system.” With shelves empty of toilet roll all over MK, panic buyers’ attention has switched to kitchen roll. And this too is now being rationed to two or three rolls per customer in majo...

Old plastic and glass containers offer tons of possibility — as long as you can get

Old plastic and glass containers offer tons of possibility — as long as you can get off those pesky labels. In the quest to become more environmentally conscious, many people have begun keeping plastic and glass bottles around to use as planters, decorative pieces, or if you’re like me, containers for homemade sauces and pickled veggies. But one of the most frustrating parts of reusing bottles is dealing with that sticky residue after you peel off the label. Sure, you can rinse them in hot water, use a butter knife to scrape off the goo and throw them in the dishwasher. Even after running bottles through the dishwasher, they usually aren’t totally label-free. 2. As the water is heating up, fill the bottle with warm water from the tap. This will warm up the glass to above room temperature, making it unlikely to crack when you perform the next step. 3. Empty the bottle into the sink. Then, wearing oven mitts, carefully pour the hot water into the glass bottle. If you don’t have a kettle, use a funnel or spouted measuring cup. 4. The heat from the water should loosen the label’s adhesive, allowing you to pull off the label, being careful not to tear it...
